10 Tips to Improve Your Productivity and Get More Done at Work

"Most time is wasted, not in hours, but in minutes.

A bucket with a small hole in the bottom gets just as empty as a bucket that is deliberately kicked over."

- Paul J. Meyer

Productivity is such a big deal these days that companies spend millions researching how to optimize their employees’ time. The following are tips to increase productivity and decrease wasted time.

#1. Be Smart With Email

It can be easy to get distracted by checking email too often. Turn off the alert on your email program so you don’t get distracted by emails that can wait.

Tip: Pick a couple of times a day (8am, 11am, and 3pm for instance) and only check your email then.

#2. Organize Your Day

Set aside 5 minutes at the start of your day to map out what tasks you will do and how long you will work on them for.

This is done best when you...

#3. Prioritize

Start with the most important stuff first and then go down your list, leaving the unimportant stuff until you have already done the "heavy lifting".

A good way to prioritize is to put your...

#4. Worst First

Start with your most annoying task and work on it until you’re done.

It will be nice to have that monkey off your back, because its tough working with monkeys.

#5. Learn What Makes You Productive

Some things that help me be productive: a clean desk, a good breakfast, instrumental music, exercise, and a good night's sleep.

#6. Don't multitask

Pick one task and give it your all until you're done.

Cut down wasted time switching tasks and shuffling papers by finishing what you started

#7. Reward yourself

When you get something done, celebrate.

Whether it be 2 minutes on a website you enjoy or some food, have a prize in mind that is better than just crossing something off the to–do list.

#8. Gimme a break

Be serious about breaks in order to clear your head and refocus. My best thinking comes when there is no pressure.

Go for a walk or just stop doing what you're doing and rest a little.

#9. Turn off technology

How much time do you waste watching TV, deciding what station to listen to on the radio, or getting text messages?

Turn off every potential distraction that can hurt "the flow" of your work.

#10. Consolidate mini-meetings

Instead of asking questions to your higher-up each time you have one, write down a list of questions and schedule a mini-meeting with them later. You'll find that many "urgent issues" have either worked themselves out or are not as important as you had thought.

The last tip I will include is from Steve Jobs:

"On the rare occasions you actually do manage to get something done, talk it up like a madman.

Say 'This is huge!' to everyone you meet. People will assume you’re 10x as productive as you are"

- Steve Jobs

National Aviation Week: Flying higher and higher

Each year, during the week of August 19, aviation fanatics and enthusiasts celebrate National Aviation Week (NAW) by recognizing the achievements that have simplified travel accommodations today.

The Wright Brothers
The themed week coincides with National Aviation Day, which celebrates Orville Wright’s, of the Wright Brothers, birthday.

Orville Wright made the first flight for 12 seconds and 120 feet around the site of Wright Brothers National Memorial, just south of Kitty Hawk, North Carolina on December 17, 1903.

While the Wright Brothers were not the first to build and fly experimental aircraft, they are recognized as the first to invent aircraft controls that made fixed wing flight possible.

The holiday was established in 1939 by Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who issued a presidential proclamation which designated the anniversary of Orville Wright's birthday to be National Aviation Day.
Aviation history is full of exciting accomplishments, adventure, and daring heroism. The weeklong event puts you in the cockpit for compelling and beautifully illustrated stories about amazing aircrafts and the fascinating people who flew them.

It also celebrates the dedicated cabin crew members who ensure passenger safety, security and comfort is paramount.

At this time we remember AmpliVox's beloved Nancy Szluk Roth and celebrating her legacy.

As a dedicated flight attendant nurse at United Airlines, Nancy flew for decades, bringing enthusiasm and quick wit to passengers around the globe.

She traveled the world many times over and as a patriotic and proud American, combining the expertise of a medical professional with the diplomatic touch to make the travel experience safe and enjoyable.
The Aviation Week Network sponsors conferences, exhibitions, webinars and other events around the world to celebrate the history of aviation.

The Chicago Air & Water Show soars back into town this weekend.

The spectacular two-day event draws an audience of over two million to the city’s stunning lakefront to see military and pilots perform astonishing stunts above the waters of Lake Michigan.

Classroom Amplification: Improving the Learning Environment

Never have to repeat yourself again. The students in your class need to hear you and AmpliVox can help. Most teachers assume that all the students in their class are able to hear them speak?

According to the Institute for Enhanced Classroom Hearing say that even students with perfect hearing can miss up to one third of what teachers are saying due to poor acoustics or poor environment.

That's a lot of students missing what you're saying that would benefit from an amplified classroom.

Many students, especially those toward the back of the room, may not hear what the teacher says due to background noise and other distractions.

There has been a lot of controversy when it comes to using portable sound systems in classrooms but the better children can hear, the more they are able to learn.
Students in an amplified classrooms retain more information have less behavioral problems and score higher on the tests. This is the reason why schools across the nation are turning to personal amplification systems to improve the education environment.

Students learn much better when they do not have to guess at what the teacher is saying.

It is reported that 70% of educators have missed at least a day of class due to voice related problems. Teachers in an amplified classroom agree that their voice showed fewer signs of strain during the day, that they repeated themselves left less often and that they didn't have to clarify what they were saying as much.

Their voice sounded more confident and it was easier to get the attention of the whole class, spending less time managing behavior and more time focusing on curriculum.

AmpliVox provides a great selection of light-weight portable sound systems that will would be an asset in any classroom.
