Breaking the Silence at the 21st Annual Run/Walk Illinois Chapter of the NOCC

The 21st Annual Run/Walk to Break the Silence on Ovarian Cancer took place on Saturday, May 19, at Arlington International Racecourse in Arlington Heights.

The event was sponsored by the Illinois chapter of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC), which works to promote awareness of the subtle signs of ovarian cancer, assist newly-diagnosed patients throughout the country, provide ongoing support for caregivers, and advocate for the advancement of ovarian cancer research.

The NOCC has accounted for 248,800,000 steps nationwide at Run/Walk events in the past 2 years, raising an average of $400,000/race. Approximately 3,000 attend each year with nearly 150 survivors, with this event being the second year held at Arlington Racecourse.

Maintaining crowd control in noisy environments is no easy task, but with up to one mile of effective sound coverage, the Mity-Meg can provide the sound needed to communicate important event details with your attendees, or provide instruction during an emergency.

AmpliVox Mity-Meg are "Commercial Industrial" megaphones with talk, whistle and siren functions made from a durable ABS plastic construction that can take abuse.

Communicating in large open spaces is never a problem with an AmpliVox megaphone. Our lightweight, battery operated megaphones are essential to your public address activities and emergency preparedness kit.

All AmpliVox models have a comfortable pistol grip and are powered by alkaline batteries or lithium-ion battery pack with integrated wall charger that plugs into any 110-240V AC outlet.

The money raised from this event supports local and national programs. Locally it supports the survivor outreach and gatherings, awareness materials and events, and nationally it supports the 3-year commitment to Stand up to Cancer Dream Team and research.

Participants were encouraged to raise funds and make a difference in the lives of women and families affected by ovarian cancer, which strikes more than 22,000 women each year. Fun teal gifts were given as rewards for fundraising efforts. Paid participants for the run/walk received free general admission for afternoon racing at Arlington Racecourse.
